Jaguar showcases C-X16 at LA auto show

Jaguar
The Indian automobile major Tata Motors owned Jaguar has showcased the C-X16 sportscar at the LA auto show, but it was reported that the model might go for production in next year itself. The media reports quoted Adrian Hallmark as saying "We are very close, but there's no decision yet. We will absolutely do both styles, but the order of launch isn't set. Depending on region, the market for the convertible is 40-60 per cent, so it is a very close decision between the two."

It was reported that the Jaguar C-X16 concept incorporates a 95 bhp electric motor which can be used to drive the car for short distances up to 50mph, or can be used in conjunction with the 375bhp 3.0-litre V6 engine to produce a speed boost at the touch of a button. It was mentioned that expected to be launched in late 2012, the Jaguar C-X16 will cost between £55,000 and £70,000 and will feature that 3.0-litre V6 with electric motor mated to a ZR eight-speed automatic gearbox. On its own, the electric motor - which is charged by harvesting power from the engine during braking, similar to KERS technology in Formula One - produces 95bhp and 173lb ft of torque, and can power the Jag for short distances at speeds up to 50mph.

Land Rover DC100

There will be a successor, reportedly a true global model (the current version hasn’t been sold on our shores officially since ’97) though at this stage, despite an introduction planned for 2015, it’s still too early to tell how the next generation model will look.

Ford unveils redesigned Escape SUV at L.A. Auto Show

Ford Escape SUV
The Ford Escape, an aging vehicle that looks much like the model that first debuted in 2000, has quietly become one of the biggest success stories at Ford Motor Co.

The automaker has sold more than 200,000 of the small sport utility vehicles this year, making it the fifth-best-selling vehicle in America and the top SUV. Decent interior room and cargo space make it popular among soccer moms, while its masculine rectangular SUV design has attracted male buyers.

Now Ford plans to upset the apple cart with a complete ground-up redesign of the Escape that improves power and fuel economy but transforms the five-passenger SUV into a sloping crossover with just a hint of a minivan.

2012 Jaguar XKR-S
Jaguar has introduced the 2012 XKR-S Convertible, a companion to the XKR-S Coupe, priced at $138,000.

The drop top promises to be just as exclusive as the hardtop, which is sold out. Jaguar says it plans to sell only 25 copies of the 2012 XKR-S Convertible in the U.S.

The XKR-S Convertible is, according to the company, "the most powerful and fastest convertible Jaguar has ever built."

The car's supercharged 5.0-liter V8 makes 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque, which enables 0-60 acceleration in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 186 mph.

Jaguar engineers have tightened things up plenty, too, upgrading the front and rear suspension, the brakes and the adaptive dynamics system. The car rides on Pirelli P Zero tires (255/35 ZR20 front, 295/30 ZR20 rear) mounted on 20-inch Vulcan alloy wheels, and sits 0.4 inch lower than the XKR Convertible.
